Socialising > Work & volunteering
Paid employment or voluntary work by older people offers them the opportunity to meet and socialise with others. It can also provide elderly people with structure to their day and utilise their skills, abilities and experience. Many voluntary organisations look for volunteers to undertake a range of tasks that could be done by older people, and provide training for volunteers. Age Discrimination legislation states that it is unlawful for employers to discriminate against people because of their age, and whilst employees currently have to retire at 65 years it is likely that the retirement age will be extended. Older people can undertake paid or voluntary work either part-time or full time.
