Telecare is the automatic remote monitoring of elderly people through telecommunication technology. Assistive technology enables older people to live at home with continuous unobtrusive monitoring of their well-being through a range of personal and property sensors and detectors. Basic telecare involves a careline or emergency alarm call service, which when activated sends alerts from the older persons home to a call centre. The wide range of telecare products that can monitor elderly people at risk in their home include movement detectors, pressure mats, bed & chair sensors, flood detectors, door exit detectors, bed occupancy sensors, and carbon monoxide detectors.
