Advocacy & Support > Emotional support
Elderly people may experience emotional distress or confusion due to a range of issues like bereavement, loss of their home, ill heath, or financial problems. Older people can be upset for a variety of reasons and may benefit greatly from emotional support that can range from “tea and sympathy” from a volunteer, professional counseling support from qualified counselors, or the emotional support that can be offered by other support workers on a one to one basis. Emotional support should be non judgmental, and necessitates good listening skills and a calm approach.
