Socialising > Day centres
There are many day centres for older people, and they are places where elderly people can attend during the daytime. Some provide a daily service, whilst others are open once a week or several days a week, although they all offer older people the opportunity to socialise. Day Centres are usually provided by local authorities or voluntary organisations, and most have eligibility criteria ensuring that they are provided for people who most need them. Social Services Departments usually provide access to day centres. They provide the opportunity to meet others socially, to engage in activities, have refreshments and/or a meal. Day centres may provide transport, and sometimes provide health care such as health checks or chiropody.
