Nationwide commits further £100k to extend FirstStop project

Nationwide has committed a further £100,00 to extend a project, piloted between January and September 2014, for a further 9 months.
The Living Safely and Well at Home project was piloted between January and September 2014, funded by Nationwide through its Citizenship at Nationwide programme, and intended to help deliver on its commitments under the ‘Your Home’ element of its Living on your side strategy.
The project’s specific targets were to support at least 7,000 older people to live well in their current home, help prevent avoidable hospitalisation and moves into care, and make it possible for them to return home successfully after a stay in hospital.
The project comprised 3 inter-related elements:
- A dedicated Live Safely and Well at Home service providing personal information, advice and support to people who are at risk of, or facing, hospitalisation or a move into residential care, or who need to prepare for discharge from hospital.
- A Live Safely and Well at Home’ information pack covering avoiding falls, hospital discharge services and alternatives to moving to a care home.
- A series of Live Safely and Well at Home outreach events to raise awareness of ways in which older people can improve the likelihood of being able to remain at home successfully into older age, and make them aware of the Live Safely and Well at Home service and information pack.
EAC FirstStop was to deliver the service, Care & Repair England the information pack, and local FirstStop partners the outreach events – with funding from the project.
In the event the project well exceeded its targets, and hence Nationwide’s decision to extend its funding.
