The Association of Retirement Housing Managers made awards to 3 of its members during a special slot at this year’s National Housing for Older People Awards in Edgbaston.
In his welcome address to the National Awards 2017, John Galvin, Chief Executive of EAC, had reflected: “There is an important good news story woven into this year’s Awards, which is about the evolution of standards in the retirement housing sector. This is why EAC very much welcomes the launch last year of a new Code of Practice by the Association of Retirement Housing Managers (ARHM), and their presence here today to celebrate the achievements of their Members.”
Introducing the ARHM Awards, its Head of Operations Cecilia Brodigan explained that the ARHM represents around 50 member organisations who manage around 90,000 leasehold retirement properties in the UK. Its new Code placed extensive and detailed expectations on its members, and over recent months the Association’s audit process has assessed compliance with the Code in its entirety.
Two key areas had been singled out for the Awards – the Leaseholder Handbook (Award won by the ELM Group) and Pre Sales Information (Award won by Goldsborough Estates). In addition, a third Award for “going the extra mile in management” was made to Housing & Care 21.
John also welcomed, as sponsors and supporters, 4 other organisations dedicated to setting and maintaining standards in later life housing, or helping management organisations and their staff to meet them – ARCO, CHS, EROSH and the Housing LIN.
