Care options appraisal provides vital information on the many types of care available, from care at home to respite care and care homes. These include homes registered to provide personal care, and those that can also provide nursing. Whilst most homes provide long term care, some also provide short term and/or respite care. There are regional differences in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as special considerations for meeting specific religious and mental health needs. Assistance with finding the best ways of meeting an elderly person’s care needs can be very helpful because the funding of care can be very complex, and there are different types of care homes. Many have specialisms such as dementia care, and some have separate provision for older people who are mentally infirm (sometimes known as EMI units).
