Amble Companions

Meaningful, paid companionship for the elder years.

What does it do?

Amble introduces older adults to warm, carefully chosen companions for regular visits and good company. It is a curated, personal service where we take time to select the right companion for the elder person.

We talk with the older person and their family about interests, routine, sense of humour and what good company really looks like for them. We then hand-pick a small shortlist of companions matched on shared interests - not simply on who happens to be free. Pam, Amble's founder, personally interviews and selects every companion, and would rather say no than send the wrong person.

Visits are about conversation, company and time well spent - a walk, a game of cards, a trip to the garden centre, a chat over tea. After every visit the family receives a warm summary, and we stay alongside both sides for as long as the match continues.

Amble is companionship, not care. Companions do not provide personal care, medication or medical tasks, and Amble is not a regulated care service. That boundary is what keeps visits relaxed, sociable and about the person.

Who it is for?

Amble is for older adults who would enjoy regular company and conversation - someone to look forward to, chosen for them rather than assigned to them.  Amble aims to tackle loneliness and can also help elder people also bridge any gap they might have experienced through no fault of their own - either difficulty using technology or simply the passage of time - helping them re-engage with the community.

It is equally for families. Many come to us because they live at a distance, are stretched by their own commitments, or simply want the reassurance that a reliable, well-matched and properly vetted person is visiting Mum or Dad. Some older people choose Amble for themselves.

It suits anyone who is well served by good company rather than care. Where personal or medical care is needed, Amble can sit happily alongside it, but does not replace it.

Where it is available?

National service (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales).

What it costs:

Amble is a private, fee-based service, priced to reflect the personal care that goes into every match.

There are two parts. A one-off introduction fee covers the consultation, the hand-picked shortlist and the matching. A small Amble platform fee is then added to each visit, capped each calendar month per person visited, and waived on the first visit. Each companion sets their own hourly rate against a published guide rate, shown up front before anything is booked, and that rate includes travel within our 15-mile limit - there are no hidden extras.

Payment is by card and taken the day before each visit, so there are never surprises afterwards. Current prices, including any introductory offer, are on amblecompanions.com. We do not administer public funding, but we are happy to talk through how families typically arrange payment.

How to access or apply for it:

Call 0333 305 0644, email hello@amblecompanions.com, or enquire through amblecompanions.com. We will arrange a personal consultation with the older person and their family at a time that suits, by phone or video. There is no obligation and no charge for that first conversation.

Amble works with families across the UK. Wherever you are, an enquiry is worked personally from day one.

What to expect then:

After the consultation we go and find the right people. You will receive a short, curated shortlist of companions matched on shared interests, with enough about each one to choose with confidence. Every companion on it has been interviewed and selected by Pam personally and holds an enhanced DBS check.

Once you have chosen, visits are booked at a rhythm that suits - weekly is typical. Payment is taken the day before each visit, and after every visit the family receives a warm summary of how it went. We stay in touch throughout, and if a match ever needs adjusting, we sort it.

Additional information:

Amble is a concierge service, not a directory or an agency roster. We keep it small and personal on purpose: matched on interests, selected by hand, and supported after every visit.

Every companion is interviewed personally, reference-checked and DBS-checked before they meet anyone. Families are never left to sift through profiles - we do the choosing with you.

Amble Companions Ltd is registered in England and Wales (company no. 17357800) and with the ICO. Reach us on 0333 305 0644 or hello@amblecompanions.com.
