Independent living > Library services

Libraries traditionally are buildings that accommodate fairly wide collections of books for loan, for little or no cost. Nowadays more elderly people including those who are housebound, physically disabled or blind or partially sighted can use library services. Library booked can be regularly delivered to and collected from a housebound older person. Books are available in large print, libraries have collections of written and oral materials such as audio cassette books or “talking” books or newspapers. Increasingly libraries now make available a very wide selection of electronic resources, and provide internet access on-site.
