Disabled facilities grants

grants for home improvments and adaptations

What does it do?

If you have a disability and are a resident of Havant Borough Council, you may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). This is a grant to adapt your home to enable you to be more independent.

The DFG is a means-tested grant. This means that your income and savings are assessed against a specific criteria to see if you are eligible.

The adaptations must be 'necessary and appropriate' and 'reasonable and practicable' as set out in the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.

The maximum amount which could be given is £30,000.

You can use the grant to make changes that:
- Improve access, both to and from, and within the home
- Help the disabled person care for resident dependants, such as children
- Make the home safe
- Provide or improve heating
- Help the disabled person use basic amenities.
