Where it is available?

Local service serving within 15km of WN60JY.

What it costs:

The lipreading tuition is free.  If people want to continue to come on a weekly basis then they can be asked to become a member of the society in which there is an annual fee of £10.  This covers the expenses such as liability insurance and other out of pocket expenses.

How to access or apply for it:

People can just turn up on a Monday at Standish Community Centre at 12:45pm.  It finishes at 2:45pm.  If they require further details they can contact Olwyn Preston the Treasurer of Standish Lipreading Society on 01257 424249 or email Wendy Worthington the lipreading teacher at or 07840703458 (Text only).

What to expect then:

They should expect a warm welcome and to meet other people with a hearing loss as deafness can be isolating.  They will receive information from the teacher on how the class is run and what to expect.  There is a break half way through the session and tea and coffee is provided by the community Centre for a small charge.

Additional information:

People are welcome to come along and see for themselves.  There is no pressure to continue to attend if people decide it is not for them.  There is a car park at the community centre.  The centre is close to a bus route that runs from Chorley to Wigan.  The lipreading class caters for beginners at lipreading and for those who are more experienced,
