It benefited from a substantial legacy of three-quarters of a million pounds, left by Mrs Norah Bellot, a local benefactress, and gifted to MHA through the Anglican Diocese of Exeter. It is, says tenant Fred Passmore, “a place with a lovely atmosphere – a real home from home. I love that I am able to get out and work in the garden, and I appreciate all that the manager and her staff do around the place.”
The benefits of being sited in the middle of a busy market town are immense and most days see activities on-site for the tenants. Norah Bellot Court plays its own part within the town through the Scheme’s on-site restaurant. It caters not only for tenants but also for older members of the community.
Many tenants are drawn from the town (some having got to know the Scheme through the meals service) whilst others have moved from around the country to be closer to their families. Friends and family are not only welcome at the Scheme but are an integral part of it – often becoming volunteers in their own right and helping out with events and functions." Show less
