Sing along and reminiscence

I provide a service specifically tailored towards the elderly in care homes and day centres. I play the acoustic guitar and sing songs from yesteryear that are remembered by most. Rather than straightforward entertainment, I do my best to encourage the clients to participate in any way they can. This can be enhanced by care staff getting involved too. Even someone in a wheelchair can have a hand gently swung to the music, which can add greatly to their enjoyment and bring back lovely memories. More often than not, this can lead to a party type atmosphere.

When I play to smaller groups , I use the music as a platform for people to reminisce. Although very different from the party atmosphere, I feel this can be just as valid.

I have 20 years of experience working with the elderly from when I worked for Age Concern, and for 7 of those years I worked closely with dementia clients.
