Socialising > Time banks
Time Banks are services that offer elderly people the opportunity to share their skills and resources, and to receive practical help and support. It is a way of helping others as well as yourself. Time credits are given for help provided, and these can be “spent” on practical help or support that you need, and in this way it doesn’t affect any benefits you may receive. Older people who are members of, or participants in, a local Time Bank offer to volunteer their help in any number of ways, for example provide gardening advice, helping someone to write letters, and sharing meals. In return they can seek the help they need, for example odd jobs, shopping etc. In short, Timebanking services provide an opportunity for reciprocal exchange of services including the opportunity to socialise.
