Share Home

Share Home enables two people to share a home for mutual benefit.

What does it do?

Share Home is a non-profit making Community Interest Company that helps older people share a home together while offering the necessary support for a secure and fulfilling lifestyle. We bring together good company, the ability to live in a lovely home and individual professional support now and in the future. Shared living enables a lower cost than other housing alternatives with all arrangements and help from one local point of contact and one inclusive monthly amount. The aim is to enjoy peace of mind, independence and wellbeing, continuing with the things you enjoy doing within the community.

We help find you the right home and the right person to share with so you're not just renting a room but sharing a home.

We support the two of you throughout your sharing so you have someone local to contact should you need any help.

If circumstances change in the future and you need to look for other accommodation we will help you with that as well.

Help is flexible and can include:

  • Help link to services.
  • Apply for eligible benefits.
  • Arrange in-home help and maintenance.
  • Organise things you enjoy.

Who it is for?

This Share Home is ideal for someone who would enjoy companionship, to save money with affordable living and to have peace of mind that professional support is easily at hand should you need it.

Where it is available?

Regional service (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire).

What it costs:

Share Home is community based and non-profit making. The scheme is designed to be a win:win for both sharers and less cost than living on your own or in other supported housing options, such as extra care or residential.

Accessing the service is free, including finding the ideal person to share with, the Share Home set up, safeguarding and all arrangements. Every Share Home is unique and designed around you. Once a Share Home is established each contribute a small monthly amount to the scheme which means you are both supported throughout the entirety of the Share Home and with whatever future choices you make. This involves regular face to face meetings, someone you can contact when needed and flexible help to arrange things the two of you need or would like.

The monthly contribution to the scheme is funded by the benefits of sharing together:

  • for the homeowner this is covered by the renters contribution they receive
  • for the renter this is part of the rent they would normally pay but at a much lower level.
