Fun with your friends
What does it do?
Fun with your friends
Being able to make friendships, socialise and play an active role locally has an amazing affect on people’s happiness. We know (because older people all tell us!) that the most important part of any club is not the venue, food or the activities but is always the company!
We currently run a number of lunch clubs where members can get a freshly cooked hot meal and the opportunity to sit, talk and play games with other people. All our clubs are member led which means we leave it to members to decide what activities should be offered – in the last year we’ve had sing-a-longs, arts & crafts, bingo, quizzes, dominoes, and countless other fun things to do.
It is not always possible for people to attend our clubs though this does not mean these people are any less lonely. We were one of the first organisations in Britain to develop a befriending scheme where volunteer visitors (normally retired people) pop in for a chat and a cuppa with lonely older people. We are always looking for volunteers to visit as there is tremendous demand for this companionship.
In order to help those people who would like a visitor but do not have one, as well as those that are not well enough for someone to come round, we provide a telephone friendship club. Again this provides much needed social support to some of Luton’s loneliest people.
We are always open to new members for all these services and would encourage anyone interested to contact us.
