Bolton Community Service

Community Resource Centre for people with learning disability

What does it do?

Activities available:
The service provides a range of centre based and community activities which include the following:

• Supporting physiotherapy programmes
• Rebound Therapy
• Sensory activity
• Arts & Crafts
• Computer interaction
• Trips to the seaside or local places of interest
• Community based activity of choice e.g. Cinema, leisure centres, ramble trails, horse riding and swimming sessions.

The service also benefits from our own fully accessible allotment which is sited in Rivington amongst the beautiful scenic views of the West Pennines Moors. The allotment is used by our most green fingered customers to plant an array of flora, vegetables and herbs.

If you don’t like gardening the allotment is ideally situated to take a ramble or just relax with a picnic or barbecue and take in the breathtaking views or to inhale the smells of the sensory garden.

These are just some of the activities that take place and we are available to support you in many other activities that you choose.

Sensory facilities
The base benefits from two light and sound rooms, equipped with tactile and sensory items, lights, sound beam, bean bags, which offer a myriad of relaxing and stimulating experiences.

These rooms are available to be booked for groups or individual sessions.

Mobility support
Specialist equipment is available on site to assist with mobility and to aid people to participate in a range of activities in an upright position to encourage independence, assist posture and help with health matters.

Befriending service
Sharing Moments In Life’s Enjoyments (SMILE) was developed to provide an opportunity for our customers to form a natural friendship with volunteer befrienders to share mutual interests and hobbies with support from our Community Support Workers. It is also an opportunity for people to gain skills and experience within social care which can aid in acquiring paid employment.

All expenses are paid for during the time spent befriending and we also provide free training and support to our Befriending volunteers.

Person centred plannings
We have trained person centred facilitators to assist you and your family carers to decide exactly what you want and how you wish to be supported.
We write this into an easy read plan and we give you monthly written updates on the progress of your plan.

Safety and well being
All staff are fully trained to deliver support safely and to always ensure that customers are treated with respect and dignity. We assist customers in areas of personal care need.
