Age UK Gloucestershire Choirs
What does it do?
Each choir meets on weekday mornings (with breaks during holidays).
No previous experience with music or singing is necessary - you just need to be able to hold a tune.
We have four choirs – in Cheltenham, Cirencester, Gloucester and Stroud – all of which are lively and welcoming. The emphasis is very much on fun and attendance has become an important social activity in members’ calendars. The choirs sing a very wide range of songs including folk, sacred, popular, gospel , light classical and songs from the shows – something for everyone - and members are encouraged to suggest songs they would like to sing.
In addition to singing for their own enjoyment, the choirs perform a few times a year for other older people in their respective localities. Venues include retirement/care homes, sheltered accommodation, clubs, day centres and various other locations. A highlight of the year is when all four choirs join together to sing at our annual Christmas in the Cathedral event. This element of choir life is one which the members particularly enjoy and they bring a lot of pleasure to older people in the community.
