Advocacy service for older people in Harrow

What does it do?

The Advocacy service aims to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services that they need.

The Advocacy service provides vulnerable older people with:

  • Information - an independent view of the issue being discussed
  • Support to get your views heard
  • Representation - a vetted and trustworthy Advocate is assigned to help you with your problems
  • Assistance with asking for and obtaining the services to which you are entitled
  • Independent representation of your unmet care needs

Someone to listen to you, while respecting your wishes and views

If you feel that you are not being listened to, or you are having difficulty accessing services to which you are entitled, then the Advocacy Services may be able to help you.
Advocates will:

  • Listen to you
  • Respect your wishes and views
  • Support you to get your views heard
  • Independently represent your unmet care needs
  • Give an independent view of issues being discussed
  • Deal with all your issues in confidence
  • Make an appointment with you before any visits
  • Only act with your signed consent

Advocates will not:

  • Represent you in a legal capacity
  • Run your errands
  • Interfere with your finances
  • Discuss issues you have not raised
  • Have any direct or professional involvement in provision of social or health care services

Our Advocacy service offers independent support to older people who are 60+ living in the London Borough of Harrow.
