Community Meals

What does it do?

Across Worcestershire, our Social Care Services are working in partnership with WRVS to deliver a Community Meals and Food Related Service, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (including Bank Holidays and Christmas Day).
This service provides equity across the County of Worcestershire to all service users and includes choice menus. Our contract with WRVS provides 100% nutritional requirements from a range of services including a hot or frozen meal service and snackpacks.  
We are able to provide meals suitable for Diabetics, Vegetarians and other specific dietary needs and preferences, including culturally appropriate meals through accredited suppliers. These suppliers can demonstrate meals and ingredients used in meals are sourced or  produced in line within specific guidelines to meet the needs of  all ethnic groups.

Older people throughout Worcestershire - To access the service your needs will be assessed against a set assessment process. The outcome of the assessment will determine the level of service put in place for you.

Options for payment
There are various options available for payment for the Community Meals Service:
Monthly Invoice
WRVS can arrange for a monthly invoice to be sent to yourself, a family member or financial representative. You can pay this invoice by posting a cheque to WRVS enclosing the payment remittance from the bottom of the invoice or by paying the invoiced amount to the driver.
Payment to Driver
You pay the driver daily, weekly or monthly. The WRVS drivers will provide a receipt for all monies collected as proof of payment, which should be retained in case of any queries or disputes.
 

How to access or apply for it:

Via Worcestershire County Council Access Centre
To access the Community Meals Service Via Worcestershire County Council you will need to telephone the Social Services Access Centre (0845 607 2000) who can give you advice and forward your request for assessment of your needs for a hot/frozen/lunch club service
Via Age Concern Wellcheck Assessment
Age Concern will carry out an assessment of your needs during which the need for a frozen meal delivery may be identified. If during this assessment a need for a hot meal Service is identified they will be able to liase with Worcestershire County Council to arrange these services. Contact numbers for your local Age Concern office can be found in your local directory.

What to expect then:

The hot 2 course meals are delivered to service user's homes from kitchens around the county or using special regeneration vehicles, thus ensuring meals arrive piping hot. Frozen meals are delivered once a fortnight direct to the service user's door. The driver will also help to load the freezer and check on rotation of meals thus ensuring quality and health and safety.
