Improving homes, improving lives in Carlisle

What does it do?

homelife Carlisle is a Home Improvement Agency provided by Carlisle City Council. We are able to provide the following services to help improve homes and therefore improve the lives of the residents of Carlisle and District:

  • Visiting you at home to give advice about any problems you have with the condition and safety of your home.
  • Handyperson service to carry out small jobs around your home and including: energy saving measures, such as draught-proofing and coming home from hospital such as key safes.
  • Helping you obtain other local support services and other services provided by the Local Authority, Health or Social Care
  • Help for private landlords.
  • Helping you access services that are provided in the Community and in your neighbourhood.
  • Helping with any work you decide to have carried out on your home including major adaptations and disabled facilities grants.
  • Helping to make your home more energy-efficient and warm.
  • Checking whether you are entitled to any financial help for example Free Grants to help you repair, maintain or adapt your home.

What it costs:

Grants of up to £7,500 are available to enable low income home-owners to carry out a range of home repairs and energy efficiency measures to make their homes safer and warmer including heating, insulation, electrical work and Disabled Facilities Grant top-ups

Grants up to the value of £500 are available for certain minor measures to support good health prevention.
Examples of eligible measures include: Key-safes, deep-cleans and gas boiler and fire servicing

Homelife also have grants up to £500 from Gas Safety to provide preventative services that directly address the risks of death, injuries and illness caused by dangerous gas work and appliances
