Dorset Heater Loan Scheme

winter heaters for older people in dorset

What does it do?

Heaters are available to help you survive the freeze from a scheme that DCF (Dorset Community Foundation) is funding across Dorset.
Working in partnership with Dorset County Council’s POPP (Partnership of Older People Programme) and DFRS (Dorset Fire and Rescue Service) the DCF has funded the purchase of a number of heaters that can be borrowed free of charge for qualifying applicants, for a short period of time to get you past a crisis.
There are 20 free standing, oil filled radiators available for short loans of five days to two weeks for people who have a sudden loss of domestic heating, or where a medically diagnosed health condition or recent hospital discharge means temporary additional heating is required. (This includes for babies and small children).
If the problem isn’t resolved within that time a longer period of loan can be negotiated – and every effort will be made by partner agencies to support the client to improve their situation.
Referrals can be identified by any group or organisation, but not by individuals themselves.  The client can contact one of the agencies involved who will undertake a SAIL (Safe And Independent Living) referral with them.
