Help to to repair, improve, maintain or adapt your home

What does it do?

The Handyperson Scheme carries out small works to people's homes.

Examples of work undertaken:

  • Installation of key-safes
  • Small carpentry works
  • Plumbing repairs or small alterations
  • Shelving
  • Assemble units from DIY stores
  • Installation of grab/hand rails
  • Installation of bannister rails

Who it is for?

Over sixty, disabled of any age, vulnerable.
Home owners, private tenants, housing association tenants and council tenants.

Where it is available?

Local service (Guildford, Waverley).

What it costs:

A fee of £25 per hour (£15 for those on means tested benefits) plus the cost of materials, will be charged for the service. The handy person will spend up to a maximum of two hours on site.

What to expect then:

You will need to give your name, address, date of birth and contact details.  Information on the type of work required will be taken and you will either be given an appointment straightaway or will be called back with an appointment.  Most appointments will be for a visit from the Handyperson within two weeks of your call and you will be told the name of the Handyperson and an approximate time for the visit eg between 9.00 and 10.00.
