Home Aid scheme

What does it do?

The Home Aid scheme is the local Home Improvement Agency for residents of South Somerset . The scheme is one of a network of Home Improvement Agencies established nationwide to keep homes warm, safe and secure', enabling residents to remain living independently in their own homes.

What sort of help can I get?
Working with Social Services and other agencies, the Home Aid team can:
  • Help clients decide what work is required;
  • Draw up plans and specifications;
  • Help select suitable builders;
  • Help apply for grants or loans;
  • See the building works through from start to finish;
  • Fill out forms and generally help with any day-to-day problems that arise.

Who it is for?

The service is available to residents in South Somerset who are either over the age of 60, living with a disability, or who could be considered vulnerable

Where it is available?

Local service (South Somerset).

What it costs:

The help you can receive may depend on your financial and personal situation, but we will be happy to advise you of the options available to you.

The intention of the scheme is to keep costs as low as possible. Any costs (usually 12%) will be outlined before works commence. All advice from the service is free, however if plans and specifications are required a 12 per cent charge is applicable. You will only need to pay this fee if you fund the work yourself, in all other cases the fees will be included in your application for financial assistance.

How to access or apply for it:

If you would like more information you can contact us by telephone on 01935 462 462 and ask for the Home Aid scheme. We are happy to send you more information about our service, or one of our Officers can visit you at home to discuss your needs and how we might be able to help.

Anyone who is over the age of 60, living with a disability or who could be considered vulnerable can contact the service for advice and assistance.

If you are registered disabled, have a specific mobility issue or think that you may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant from us, we will need to refer you to Care Direct (0845 345 9133). They can arrange a visit from an Occupational Therapist who may be able to support an application for a grant.
