Handy Person Service

What does it do?

The Service aims to help prevent slips and trips in the home by carrying out a range of small jobs, including fitting grab rails and changing curtains.

The range of repairs carried out varies dependent on needs, but would include:-
  • Minor safety adaptations
  • Curtain hangingGrab rails
  • Fixing hazards that may cause you to trip over, like loose carpets or a sticking door. 
All of our Handymen have been security checked providing you with confidence and peace of mind.

Who it is for?

The Handy Person Service, which is supported by South Birmingham Primary Care Trust, is aimed at increasing safety and preventing falls by carrying out small, minor repairs for older people living at home.

It is currently only available to people who are over 50 and who live within the boundary of the South Birmingham Primary Care Trust, due to the funding provision.  It is open to both owner-occupiers and tenants.

Local service (Birmingham).

What it costs:

The service is free and the only expenditure to the customer is the cost of any materials. The service is designed to undertake work that is estimated to take approximately 2-3 hours per job.

How to access or apply for it:

Applications can only be made via a referral form, which must be completed by a recognised referral group or person such as a:-
  • G.P / District or Community Nurse
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Age Concern employee
  • Other recognised voluntary organisations
