Arts Psychotherapies Service for Older People

What does it do?

Arts psychotherapies provide a better quality of life for older people. Arts
psychotherapies in CPFT include art psychotherapy, music therapy and
dance movement therapy. These modalities allow greater possibilities for
communication either through art, movement or music.

Arts psychotherapies can have a profound impact when they reveal
communication skills in older people suffering from dementia. The
regular sessions can provide disoriented patients with a sense of
containment, consistency and recognition.

Arts psychotherapies help patients explore difficult and painful feelings both verbally and
through the arts medium. Real and lasting change can be achieved for
older people experiencing a range of both mild and severe mental health
problems from mild depression to schizophrenia.
