What does it do?

Abingdon Older Adult Community Mental Health Team provides specialist
mental health services in the community forming a link with primary

We are a multidisciplinary team, providing assessment, treatment and
care for people over 65 years with a mental illness or cognitive
impairment, and for people under 65 years suffering from dementia.

Who it is for?

This service is for:
  • Older adults (over 65 years)
  • Adults of working age (between 18 - 65 years) with dementia
  • Individuals aged 65 or older who are currently receiving a service from Oxford Health adults services but whose needs have changed in a way that could more appropriately be met by an older adult service.

Where it is available?

Local service (Vale of White Horse).

What it costs:

The service is free of charge.

How to access or apply for it:

This service accepts referrals from GPs or the hospital's medical team.
In some circumstances referrals may come from social and community
care, primary health care teams, other health departments or allied
In all cases the GP should be aware that a referral has taken place so relevant information can be shared.

Additional information:

The team provides teaching for students. Therefore students will be
present during visits. However, permission from service users will
always be requested by a team member beforehand.

Office hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm
