Volunteers use their own cars to help local people attend appointments (medical, hairdressers etc), visit hospitals, go shopping etc.
Who it is for?
The Voluntary Car Scheme has been set up to provide transport by car for disabled people or frail elderly people who find it impossible to use public transport either because there is no transport available or because they cannot walk to a bus stop or easily climb on and off a bus.

Local service (East Devon).
What it costs:
A journey within Budleigh Salterton is £1.50 each way. All other fares will be at 70 pence per mile.
Payment is made direct to the driver, who can give a receipt.
Voluntary drivers, however, are not often able to wait at the destination for a long period, so passengers may be asked to pay an extra charge of £2.00 if the waiting time is 2 hours or more.
