Tiverton Voluntary Car Scheme

What does it do?

Transport is provided by volunteers using their own cars. This service enables people to attend medical appointments, shopping centres, hairdressers, meetings etc.

Who it is for?

For frail elderly people and people with disabilities who find public transport extremely difficult, either because they cannot walk to the bus stop or easily climb on or off the bus.

Where it is available?

Local service (Mid Devon).

What it costs:

Passengers are charged a mileage rate of 45p per mile they travel. The minimum charge is £3.00. The co-ordinator can advise on the cost of arrangements which differ from a usual journey. Special charging arrangements may be required on some occasions (e.g. if one return journey for a passenger entails two return journeys for the driver).
