Grundy Day Centre

What does it do?

The centre has places for 75 service users per day from anywhere in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, (except for the Prestwich area which is covered by the Redcliffe Daily Living Centre), and is open from 10.00 am till 5.00pm Monday to Friday weekly.

The centre can cater for up to 16 wheelchair users per day.

The service provision meets assessed social, mental, emotional, physical or carer needs and is offered in a safe and stimulating environment within a purpose built single storey building close to the centre of Bury.

Carer and service user respite services can be arranged on an individual assessed needs basis.

The centre offers a warm, friendly and secure environment which we hope will make you to feel welcome, safe and secure.

Staff aim to provide services that are free from fear of favour or influence and the same for all and we would request that if you wish to show your appreciation of staff you do so by writing in the compliments book which can be found at the entrance to the centre or sending a short letter or card to the centre. Staff are not permitted to accept gifts from service users and we would ask you not to embarrass them by offering gifts which they will have to refuse.

Our services include the provision of:-
  • Transport to and from the centre in a specialised vehicle with a driver to assist to and from the vehicle. (The centre leases both vehicle and driver from the Environmental Development Services Department)
  • Refreshments and meals
  • Drinks of tea, coffee or cordial are served during the day An in-house lunch is provided at 12 noon with a choice of menu

Grundy Day Centre, which was opened in 1973, stands in its own fenced grounds and is located just outside the centre of Bury in a residential area with playing fields and open spaces to the front and back of the building. The building is a single story purpose built structure on one level so that it has no steps throughout to allow for easy access and movement around the centre. In 2003 the outside of the building underwent a comprehensive refurbishment. The centre is furnished and decorated in a friendly and cosy manner in order to make service user feel at home.

A car parking area is provided for service users who wish to use their own means of transport and there is a canopy covered entrance area for the comfort of service users arriving at the centre. There are also outside seating areas, landscaped areas and flat walking paths throughout the grounds.

Automatic entrance doors allowing immediate exit from the building but controlled entrance into the building provide total security and freedom from fear for the service users at the centre.
