Mayfield House Day Centre

What does it do?

Mayfield House Day Centre provides a service for Somali elders, offering support and stimulation.

Activities / services are aimes at maintaining independent living in their own homes. They include:
art and crafts
reminiscence
music and movement
quizzes
crosswords
independent living skills

Personal health care and advice is also provided, including assistance with bathing.

Wheelchair access is provided.

A light breakfast, hot Somali lunch and refreshments are provided each day

All staff speak Somali

Who it is for?

for male and female Somali olders aged 55 and over

Where it is available?

Local service (Tower Hamlets).

How to access or apply for it:

Users must meet the council’s ‘eligibility criteria’ for receiving a service.

Placements at the centre can only be offered following an assessment by a social worker. The assessment is to clarify the individual’s needs and ensure the authority’s eligibility criteria are met. If the assessment confirms the need for a day care placement, a referral/care plan is passed to the day centre.

Anybody can refer someone who they think is in need of care and support to adult services for an assessment. This includes family members, carers, doctors and potential services users themselves.

From Mile End underground station: Turn right outside station (heading towards Bow) Take the second turning on the right – Southern Grove Continue down Southern Grove on left hand side, until you come to a car park. Turn into the car park at the second gate and the entrance to Poplar Day Centre is directly in front of you.
