Dementia Support Centres

Dementia support from local charity in Bromley

What does it do?

MindCare’s Dementia Support Centres provide care during the day up to six days a week. Focus is on offering stimulating activities in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.  We aim to help people with dementia stay independent in their homes and communities for longer. The centres are located in the Beckenham and Orpington areas.

  • Activities are carefully selected to encourage and stimulate wellbeing whilst supporting independence.  A typical activity programme includes reminiscence work, music therapy, arts and crafts, memory or board games, group quizzes and appropriate movement and fitness exercises. Clients are active participants in the daily tasks required to run the centres.
  • Sensory Room and Garden at MindCare Beckenham Centre is particularly useful for clients at a more advanced stage of dementia.  Where verbal communication has become a problem, the sensory facilities allow for other senses to be used through hearing, sight and touch.
  • Refreshments and a nutritious two-course lunch, including fresh vegetables, are provided during the day with plenty of hot or soft drinks.  Sample menus are available and special diets can be catered for.
  • Staff are fully trained and vetted and hold relevant qualifications in Social Care.  Staffing ratios in MindCare Day Centres are high with at least one member of staff to four clients.
  • Transport is provided to and from the Centre for clients funded by the London Borough of Bromley.

Opening times
The centres in Beckenham and Orpington are open 9 am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. The Beckenham Centre is also open on Saturdays.

Additional information:

Experience
MindCare is part of well respected local charity, Bromley Mind.  We have been providing dementia care in Bromley for over 25 years, since 1986.  Our staff are experienced too with relevant qualifications in Health and Social Care.

Putting the person first
When planning care for someone with dementia, we treat everyone as an individual.  We take the time to find out about a client’s background, interests and preferences so we can tailor support to meet their needs.

Safe environments
MindCare has an excellent reputation for providing relaxed yet stimulating environments and for managing challenging behaviour effectively.

Stimulating activities
Families can have peace of mind knowing their relative is safe and benefitting from participating in a range of activities and social interactions.  These include a sensory garden, music, exercise and games.

Support for family carers
Using MindCare’s services gives family carers the chance to have a break from their demanding responsibilities to rest, explore their own interests and to work.  Our staff are always on hand to provide informal support to carers.  We also provide dementia training for carers providing sources of further information and support on dementia.
