Activities for older people

What does it do?

A wide range of free activities are available for older people in the borough, from health walks in Brent's glorious parks and open spaces to free swimming (visit http://www.brent.gov.uk/sport.nsf/pages/LBB-155) - there is an activity for all the over 50s living and working in Brent.

Over 50's activities such as light exercise, dancing and 'watercise' are available in leisure centres. Some classes are run for ladies only.

A directory of sports clubs and leisure centres (visit http://www.brent.gov.uk/sport.nsf/Sports%20facilities/LBB-3) gives details on all the activities available including bowling, cricket, golf and sailing.

Brent's community website, BRAIN, has further information on activities for older people such as swimming, bowling, badminton, tennis, squash, sailing and golf and provides more information on health for older people.

Pensioners will need a Freedom Pass to swim for free in our leisure centres. Discounts are also available to residents who hold a B.Active leisure card. See discount scheme at http://www.brent.gov.uk/sport.nsf/pages/LBB-13

Over 50s who would like to enjoy parks and outdoor spaces can join one of the refreshing health walks organised across the borough.

Whatever you choose, take care and enjoy yourself. Remember a health check is advisable before starting a new exercise routine.

Residents interested in learning something new can browse the courses provided by our Adult and Community Education Service (visit http://www.brent.gov.uk/nv/LBB-2?OpenDocument&pid=200004) or pick up information from Learning links for older people.

Free newspapers are provided in libraries and older residents interested in times past will find more information from Brent's heritage archive and museum service. Visit http://www.brent.gov.uk/museumarchive.nsf/Pages/LBB-3
