Keeping safe in your home
What does it do?
Fire and Rescue Service - keeping fire safe
You can request a fire safety check for your home. Visit the fire safety pages for advice and guidance.
Keeping warm in the winter
Safety is important in all aspects of keeping yourself warm.
Take care when using electric blankets or filling hot water bottles. Never use a hot water bottle and an electric blanket together, as this is extremely dangerous and could give you an electric shock. You may be entitled to some additional financial help, especially during periods of very cold weather.
Winter fuel payment
Winter fuel payment is an annual payment to help with heating costs, made to households with someone over pension credit age.

Cold weather payment
Cold weather payments are made to eligible people when the weather is very cold. You will automatically receive the payment if you get Pension Credit or certain other means-tested benefits.
