Bexley Intake and Community Mental Health Team

What does it do?

The Intake and Community Health Teams (CMHT) offer assessment and treatment for people over the age of 65 with mental health needs. We also offer support to their families and carers, including carer's assessments if appropriate. We see people with a range of mental
health needs including:
  • anxiety
  • dementia with behaviour problems
  • depression
  • other mental health problems.
Both teams consist of people from different backgrounds who can offer a wide range of skills and ways of working with you including:
  • community psychiatric nurses (CPNs)
  • occupational therapists (OTs)
  • psychiatrists
  • psychologists
  • social workers
  • support workers
  • team secretaries.

People over the age of 65 with mental health needs in the Bexley area.

What it costs:

The service is free of charge.

How to access or apply for it:

Most of the people we see are referred by their doctor. Your GP will have assessed whether other factors, such as physical difficulties, are causing your problems. Also, if you are in hospital, you may have been referred to us by your consultant.

What to expect then:

If appropriate, you will be offered an assessment. This will be offered in an assessment clinic or if needed at home. You will be asked lots of different questions. These may include:
  • your general health and housing situation
  • what things are causing you most distress
You might like to write down any questions you have before the appointment.
