Highcliffe Friends in Need

What does it do?

Highcliffe Friends in Need is an independent group of local volunteers who will provide help in the community to those in need of assistance. The service provides door to door transport to take residents to medical appointments only.

Who it is for?

Anyone who has transport difficulties who live in Highcliffe, Mudeford or Walkford.

Where it is available?

Local service (Christchurch).

What it costs:

Dorset Partnership for Older People Project (Dorset POPP) provided start-up funding for this scheme. We aim to be self-funding within months of starting. A donation is requested to cover the cost of the journey (suggested donation is 45p per mile). Mileage includes distance from the driver's home and back again, plus any car parking expenses incurred. For example, for a journey from Highcliffe to Christchurch Hospital, suggested donation is £6.50 return.

How to access or apply for it:

To make a booking, ring 01425 274729 or for any other information, contact the Secretary, Mrs Belbin on 01425 279328.

What to expect then:

Our Co-ordinator will contact an available driver to book your journey and ring you to tell you the name of the driver and the arrival time at your home.

Additional information:

We require at least 48 hours' notice. Our drivers are volunteers and use their own vehicles. They are not available at short notice. Some cars are be able to accommodate folding wheelchairs and all can accommodate folding rollators.
