Christchurch Neighbour Cars

What does it do?

Neighbour Cars is an independent group of local volunteers who will provide help in the community to those in need of assistance. The service provides door to door transport to take residents to doctor, dentist or hospital appointments or to visit church, clubs and friends.

Who it is for?

Residents in Christchurch (BH23 postcode area), who have limited access to local transport.

Where it is available?

Local service (Christchurch).

What it costs:

Dorset Partnership for Older People Project (Dorset POPP) provided start-up funding for this scheme. We aim to be self-funding within months of starting. A donation is requested to cover the cost of the journey - (mileage costs will be 50p per mile). Mileage includes distance from the driver's home and back again, plus any car parking expenses incurred. There is no charge for the volunteer's time and they will wait for approximately 1 hour to return you home (unless a longer period has been booked).

How to access or apply for it:

Contact our Co-ordinator on 01202 430 176 or 01202 989 632, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm to advise them of your journey details. If Co-ordinator is unable to take your call, please leave a message giving your name and telephone number, and they will ring you back.

You can email your enquiries from our website at http://www.housingcare.org/service/ser-info-4701-christchurch-ne.aspx

What to expect then:

Our Co-ordinator will contact an available driver to book your journey and ring you to tell you the name of the driver and the arrival time at your home. Before the journey, the driver will tell you the total mileage and cost and give you an envelope for your donation, please seal and return to the driver.

Additional information:

We require at least 48 hours' notice (or more, if possible). Our drivers are volunteers and use their own vehicles. They are not available at short notice. All drivers are CRB checked. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs but most cars will take folding rollators.
