Day Care

What does it do?

Day Care at theDevonshire Resource Centre

The Devonshire Resource Centre provides 30 places for day care for people who have been diagnosed as having Dementia.  This is available Monday to Friday 9am to 3.30pm and enables their carers to have a break.  We place emphasis on courtesy, respect, dignity and privacy at all times and have a team of committed, trained staff who provide a supportive care service to our service users and their carers.

Our service and activities are aimed at providing motivation and stimulation for our clients.  We see ourselves as Care Partners, working in collaboration with both formal and informal carers.  We undertake a full assessment prior to offering a place at the centre and carry out regular reviews involving the carers and our staff.  We adapt our care plans according to changing capabilities.

We presently have limited places for people with Early-Onset-Dementia (under 65years of age) and from the end of 2009/early 2010 the new wing will be opening offering specialist care for this particular age group. Information regarding this service can be obtained from Marie Corner on 0151 653 4404.

We provide ongoing support based on need and can advise on available training for carers and any other relevant services that are provided locally by Age Concern Wirral and other agencies.  Day care clients have full access to our Bathing Service, Hair Dressing Service, State Registered Chiropodist and transport, when possible.

Day Care for People who live alone or are Socially Isolated

This service is designed for those people who live alone or would benefit from meeting other people.  There is a 22 place day care facility in St Peters Court, Rock Ferry on Thursday from 9.30am to 3.30pm and at Bramwell Court, New Ferry on Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Daycare and bathing is provided at the Age Concern Centre within Harvest Court in Moreton.  Age Concern Wirral provides daycare for people who have limited mobility and/or who are in need of company.  Daycare is available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9.00a.m. to 3.30p.m. and a bathing service is also available throughout the week.

The philosophy embraced is pro-active and based on the recognition that people requiring care have individual needs which must be approached on an individual basis.  We provide trained care workers who can also give advice on other local services, general advice and information and emotional support.  Transport is available when possible.

Each service user will have a full assessment prior to taking up the service and care plans will be adapted according to changing capabilities.
