What does it do?

Asian Wellbeing Group services

Asian day care services and groups across Leicester Shire & Rutland.

Support for independent groups

There are a number of independent groups, supported by Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland, that have been developed to meet the needs of Minority Ethnic Elders.

The Leicester Shire & Rutland Minority Ethnic Forum

The Forum meet four times per year so that member groups can network with each other, engage with external organisations and receive updates about new services.

Catherine House

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland's ethnic minority services in Leicester are conducted from Catherine House – a vibrant multi-cultural resource centre for people over 50.

Catherine House hosts a range of social services including

  • A Gujarat Wellbeing service
  • A Punjabi Wellbeing service
  • A lunch club for Muslim elders meeting three times a week and caters for up to 100 people
  • A lunch club for a mixed group of Asian elders who meet three times a week and caters for up to 130 people

These services include transport to and from home to the centre, culturally-appropriate food, activities, social contact and outings.

In addition to these activities, a number of other educational, health and exercise classes are available at Catherine House.

Some of these services can only be accessed through  the Social Care and Health Departments of Leicester City Council.
