Daybreak

Meets the needs of older people in rural locations

What does it do?

This day care initiative is designed to specifically meet the needs of older people living in rural locations for whom traditional day care would be inappropriate. The service is provided by trained local people in their own homes who act as host carers. In addition to providing intensive support to service users this service provides respite for carers.

The aim of the service is to provide:
  • A flexible alternative to traditionally delivered day care
  • Improved access to day/respite services in rural areas
  • Greater choice for service users and carers
  • Smaller group settings which respond to the needs of older people who do not cope well with larger groups
  • A range of stimulating social activities which promote independence and encourage people to maintain everyday skills
