Dorset Country Car Scheme - North Dorset

What does it do?

This is a voluntary car scheme, providing transport for hospital visiting, doctors, dentists, opticians, chiropodists, prescription collection and social activities.

Who it is for?

Disabled/mobility impaired, elderly with no access to or unable to use public transport.

Where it is available?

Local service (North Dorset).

What it costs:

The passenger makes a contribution between 25p and 35p per mile based upon the mileage travelled (which cannot be more than 50 miles for a round trip) and receives a receipt from the driver. The additional costs are subsidised by Dorset County Council.

How to access or apply for it:

Anyone eligible to use this service should telephone Mrs Wendy Catley on 01258 473439 to give details of the transport required. Twenty-four hours notice is essential except in emergencies.

What to expect then:

If the trip is eligible the local organiser will ask one of the volunteer drivers to help. The driver then makes the trip noting the total mileage (which cannot be more than 50 miles for a round trip).

Additional information:

Volunteers drive their own vehicles.
