What does it do?

Care and Repair in South Lanarkshire is an independent charity which provides information, advice and practical assistance to help older or disabled home owners and tenants of private landlords repair, maintain, improve or adapt their home. We provide a person centred service which helps people to live more safely, securely and independently in their own home.

Who it is for?

You can get help from Care and Repair in South Lanarkshire, if you, or someone who lives with you;
is aged 60 years or more; or
is disabled; or
suffers from a long term health problem or illness.

What it costs:

Our advice and assistance is free of charge. 
Although we don’t pay for the cost of the work, an experienced Care and Repair Officer will provide you with information, advice and practical assistance free of charge and in confidence.

We also provide a small repair service. This service is free of charge and you only need to pay for any materials needed or supply

Repairs and Adaptations
Our advice and assistance is free of charge. 
Although we don’t pay for the cost of the work, an experienced Care and Repair Officer will provide you with information, advice and practical assistance free of charge and in confidence and will;
listen to any concerns you have about looking after your home and discuss these with you;
help you decide what repairs or improvements are needed;
arrange the preparation of any drawings if required;
help you to access any approved or accredited contractors list and, if necessary, provide specifications;
obtain quotes for the work from qualified and reliable contractors;
help set up a contract between you and your contractor;
visit to ensure the work is carried out to an acceptable standard
advise you of funding options you may be entitled to and help you to complete forms and other paperwork; and
liaise with your Occupational Therapist to help you to adapt your home to meet your needs. these yourself

Additional information:

Small Repairs Service
We also provide a small repair service. This service is free of charge and you only need to pay for any materials needed or supply these yourself. A small repair is a job which should only take up to three hours to complete. We can carry out a range of jobs, for example, we can:
Replace broken window cords.
Fit locks to windows or doors.
Fit handles to windows or doors.
Hang or repair internal doors.
Repair or ease windows.
Fit curtain rails.
Renew washers to stop dripping taps.
Bleed radiators.
Fit shelves.
Replace electrical sockets or switches.
Hang light fittings.
Fit draught excluders.
Clear gutters (bungalow height only).
