Home Maintenance & Repair

Community Handyperson

Age Concern Birmingham have an in house Community Handyperson service to carry out DIY jobs, repairs, maintenance, adaptations and installing home safety equipment around the home or in the garden. The Handyperson is employed and managed directly by us.

Examples of what can be offered include:

  • Changing light bulbs or door / window locks
  • Carpentry tasks
  • Installing or replacing smoke alarms
  • Fixing grab rails and key safes
  • Gardening
  • Painting internally and externally
  • Assembling furniture and items
  • General odd jobs, property maintenance and much more… just ask.

We charge £30 for the first hour then £25 per hour excluding and materials needed, which can be provided at an additional charge.
Staff are police and quality checked for your own peace of mind.


Age Concern Birmingham works with a variety of different tradespeople to meet the needs of our customers . We offer a full range of services to improve and  maintain your home from cleaning windows to building an extension.

Let one of our team members know what type of work you need doing, they will refer you on to the most appropriate tradesperson to provide a free, no obligation quotation. We always recommend you get more than one quote before choosing a tradesperson, especially for large jobs. With our tradespeople you have peace of mind that they are quality and police checked.

Age concern Birmingham will receive a small donation for any work carried out via a tradesperson partner at no cost to our customers.


Age Concern Birmingham works in partnership with different stairlift providers to provide a range of new and reconditioned stair lifts available to buy or rent. A 10% – 12% discount is available for all Age Concern Birmingham clients on purchases. Quote Reference Number:- 135

Bathroom Adaptions

Age Concern Birmingham works in partnership with Able Access UK to provide a range of building adaptationsto help promote independence for clients with mobility needs.

Adaptions include:

  • Walk in showers and baths
  • Wetrooms
  • Over-bath showers
  • Downstairs toilets
  • Accessible kitchens

A 10% discount is available to Age Concern Birmingham clients. A free home assessment can be provided and also you can try before you buy at a local showroom.

Mobility Equipment

Age Concern Birmingham help service users who have a need for rise and recline chairs, mobility scooters, wheelchairs and profiling beds. We can offer a special 10% discount on standard prices available to those who we signpost. We can arrange for a consultant who is able to look at each customers particular circumstances and advise what product is suitable, and which options would be best for them through a free no obligation assessment. Demonstrations can be carried out in the comfort of the enquirer’s own home for most products.
