What does it do?

Our Care & Repair Service offers free, impartial advice to all Residents living within the Wakefield Council District. We can provide advice on Private building / adaptations work, including details of local trusted contractors on the Wakefield Local Authority's approved contractors list. We can assist in site visits, obtaining relevant quotes, and support you through the process to completion of the work. We also provide advice on a variety of available loans, and grants, including the Wakefield Council's Disabled Facilities Grant Funding.

Wakefield Care & Repair is also the home of the Handyperson Service for the Wakefield area. This is an entirely free service for those who are elderly, disabled, or classed as vulnerable either due to Mental health issues, or sensory impairments. We can help Private Home Owners, Private Tenants, or those residing in Housing Association properties within the Wakefield District, The only residents we CAN NOT HELP are those residing in Wakefield District Housing (WDH) properties.  WDH have their own services and procedures to assist tenants. 

The Handyperson service can provide and install a wide variety of items to make your home more safe, secure and to help prevent falls. For example, we fit Key safes, Grab rails (internal & external), metal Handrails, Banister rails, change light bulbs, and help to move items of furniture around the property to assist with downstairs living if recommended by a health professional or social worker. This is not an exhaustive list of the type of work we can provide.
