The Hop50+

Community space and cafe for the over 50s.

What does it do?

The Hop50+ is a local charity project based in Hove, offering a community space and café to vulnerable and isolated people aged over 50.  Everyone who goes to the Hop has their own reason for being there, but loneliness is the common condition.  People build friendships, find or rediscover interests, enjoy a healthy home cooked meal, volunteer, befriend others, have a therapy treatment, a day out, an Art session, enjoy Yoga or Gardening.

Our café is open 7 days a week and we always serve a roast dinner on a Sunday.  Food is homecooked on site by our fabulous café team.  We have a menu that ranges from a home cooked lunch and pudding to a cheese toastie.  You are welcome to just relax with a drink and browse a newspaper if you wish.

Every Friday the Hop50+ is dedicated to providing a specialist dementia friendly service.  Using our successful model of providing personal choice we offer a range of activities so people can stay all day or come in at times which suit them.  The café is open all day so people can just come in for lunch or a coffee and a chat if they wish.

Through working with experts and specialist we have developed a programme of innovative and engaging activities which are enjoyable and designed to keep minds and bodies active, carers are also welcome to attend these.
