The service helps pay for the cost of adapting a home to meet the needs of a person with disabilities, to help you live independently and remain in your own home for as long as possible.

The current maximum Disabled Facilities Grant available is £30,000. If an applicant requires an adaptation that costs in excess of the maximum mandatory DFG limit, the council may make available repayment and or appreciation loans as set out in the Home Improvement Assistance section.

Where a Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant is approved, and the cost of the works exceeds the mandatory limit of £30,000 a Discretionary Top Up Grant may be awarded in case of hardship.

Relocation assistance
 
If it is impractical for the work to be done at your property or it does not provide value for money, then a Relocation Equity Loan may be made available to provide you with a more suitable property or one that can be more easily adapted to meet your needs.

The terms and conditions as set out in the relocation assistance chapter of the housing assistance policy will apply in respect to an application made for this purpose.

Alternative accommodation
 
Where you are unable to purchase an alternative property, or you are not an owner-occupier, the council may seek to secure alternative accommodation for you through its strategic delivery partners, including its Registered Social Landlord (RSL) partners. In such circumstances, the applicant may be eligible for a Disturbance Payment, as currently set out under the terms of the Land Compensation Act 1973.
