Volunteer Cornwall

Community Transport Scheme

What does it do?

Volunteer Cornwall is a County-wide charity, established in 1978, which focuses on developing active and engaged citizens through volunteering.

The Transport Department, part of the larger charity, operates a range of initiatives all intending to improve transport within Cornwall, reducing isolation and supporting the other organisations across the County towards this common goal with the support of the local authority.

The County-wide Community Car provides transport to anyone who is unable to access the services and facilities they require using conventional public or private transport.

Our Truro Shopmobility Scheme provides mobility equipment for hire to members of the public with the city centre during its opening hours for a small fee.

Our bank of trained Minibus Drivers (MiDAS / Cornwall Council) are available for organisations and groups within Cornwall who require them. We do not currently have a vehicle of our own.

We also have a growing range of training courses to support the Community Transport Sector and the Transport sector of Cornwall. These are:

* MiDAS - Car and MPV Driver Training, Minibus Driver Training, Passenger Assistant Training

* 5 Steps to Safety

* Minibus Emergency Evacuation Procedures

* Child Protection – Tier 2 Safeguarding

* Vulnerable Adult Protection

* Child Seat Awareness

* Emergency First Aid

* CTA Driver CPC – Disability Awareness Training, Emergency Procedures

We provide an advice and support service for organisations, groups and individuals who are planning to set up or have existing services allowing them to develop their plans and support their local communities.
