Live In Care

High-quality live in care services.

What does it do?

Our full management care providers are all regulated in England by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent body that inspects and maintains standards within the industry.

There are equivalent bodies responsible for service regulation in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. They are: Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS), The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and for Northern Ireland:

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA). All are committed to making sure our providers are safe, caring, responsive, effective and well run.

Who it is for?

When it comes to full management, clients and families needn’t worry about a thing.

Here, the provider hires and trains its own carers directly, overseeing every aspect of care, both long-term and day-to-day. This includes early risk assessment and client-carer matching, to personalised care plans, staff rotas and admin such as salary, holiday pay and so on.

With oversight, reviews and 24/7 support, clients decide how much of a managed service they’d prefer. It’s the ideal option for families juggling lots of other demands or those who don’t want to worry about coordinating GP appointments and other everyday tasks.

Where it is available?

National service (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales).

What it costs:

Live-in fees will also depend on the level of care that’s needed. For instance, ‘companionship care’, with minimal personal care or condition management will cost much less than more complex care, which may include nurse-led services and clinical oversight.

Only pay for what you need.

Paying for an introductory package usually pays for a carer, plus an agency management cost. For fully managed services, fees tend to cover a fixed, all-inclusive weekly rate covering everything involved, including monitoring, supervising and supporting the carers. Full management fees may also cover bank holiday work and travel expenses. (It’s worth remembering basic fees for the introductory package don’t usually cover bank holidays or travel expenses.)

How to access or apply for it:

Each provider belongs to the United Kingdom Homecare Association. And together, we’re united in our mission to raise awareness of this high quality, life-enhancing alternative to care homes.

Additional information:

Compared to residential homes, live-in care may also be more affordable than you think, especially when couples are looked after together. Rather than being charged twice, it’s merely a slight increase in cost.

You’ll find plenty of long-term options for ongoing care and short-term cover for respite or convalescence periods. No wonder so many people are choosing and recommending live-in care.
