Home care service

About the service
Care in your own home is offered to people who require assistance, it may be with personal care such as washing or dressing, or other practical daily tasks such as help with domestic chores like cooking and cleaning, or in some instances, help in managing your finances.

We provide personal home care and practical help to support people who wish to live independently either directly, or by purchasing it from private care agencies on the person's behalf. For example, Home Care Assistants can help with getting into and out of bed and other personal care.

These services are provided to people who need them most. Everyone who applies is assessed according to their needs to see how independent they are. The cost of the service depends on your financial circumstances.

A Social Worker will visit you to assess your needs for a service. The service is available between 7.30 am and 11 pm.

Help is available with a wide range of tasks
Home Care Assistants can provide personal and practical help with the following tasks:

  • getting in and out of bed
  • dressing
  • washing
  • going to the toilet
  • help with eating
  • preparing drinks and snacks
  • shopping

Evening Home Care service
There is also an Evening Home Care Service. Evening Home Care provides support between 6.00pm & 11.00pm. This provides a 'tucking in' service to help people get to bed at night. Help is available with:

  • undressing and getting to bed
  • visiting the toilet
  • washing your face and hands
  • getting a hot drink at bedtime

Evening support can help if you are:

  • Severely disabled, frail or sick
  • Unable to manage on your own at night and have no friends or relatives nearby who can help, and
  • Where a service is necessary to enable you to continue to live independently

It is worth remembering that the duties of the Evening Home Care staff do not include medical or nursing attention. You should call the 24 Hour NHS Care Trust Community Nursing Service for this on 07976 5500 44.

Who gets help, how and what?

These services are provided to people who need them most. Everyone who applies is assessed according to their needs to see how independent they are. The cost of the service depends on your financial circumstances.

This service may be needed because of:

  • disability
  • mental health
  • frailty
  • illness and convalescence

Staff offer support by working closely with relatives and other carers, so that, where appropriate, caring tasks can be shared. We will work with you to develop confidence and possibly regain skills to increase your independence.

A Social Worker will visit you to assess your needs.
