Fit for Life: Exercise Classes
What does it do?
Age UK Enfield now holds 23 classes under Fit for Life and they include a wide variety of activities.
The classes are run at various venues across the borough, including church halls, leisure centres, town parks and country parks.
The classes include Senior Circuits, Pilates, Aqua Aerobics, Line Dancing, Aerobics, Get Walking, Get Talking, Nifty 50’s, Walk in the Park, Zumba Gold, 50+ Gentle Activities, Dance and Tone and Fit Steps.
As with all forms of exercise, there are many benefits to be gained by signing up to one or more of the classes. Health wise, these will improve the efficiency of the cardio-vascular system, help to lower blood pressure, reduce weight and help with the prevention of diabetes as well as strengthening bones and muscles. Added to this, there is the extra bonus of making new friends through the social interaction that comes with each class.
Some of our classes are an hour and a half, this gives people the opportunity to socialise at the end, when refreshments are served. This is a very important part of the programme as this provides a great outlet for some of our clients who are socially isolated. This ‘group bonding’ provides excellent social support for people who live alone and encourages regular participation.
All of our exercise teachers have been specially selected to motivate the groups, enable people to participate at their own level of ability, and make the groups fun.
